For the Casual and the Competitive: Disc Golf in Stevens Point

Share

Stevens Point is a charming community alongside the Wisconsin River and is emblematic of the stunning landscapes in Central Wisconsin. The town's unique character is shaped by The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, fostering a legacy of environmental stewardship and harmony since the 1960s.

This unique blend of college town ambiance, breathtaking regional beauty, and a commitment to conservation cultivated a thriving and vibrant disc golfing culture. Discover all the best disc golfing Stevens Point has to offer and enjoy spending time outside with your friends and family.

Standing Rocks County Park

No trip to Stevens Point is complete without a round at the local legend: Standing Rocks County Park. Renowned throughout the state and upper Midwest, it’s a perennial destination on the Wisconsin Disc Golf Tour. Here, you and your crew will find 33 meticulously maintained holes designed to challenge and inspire. Set within a scenic woodland backdrop, the course presents a multitude of obstacles that reward precision and strategic play. Not surprisingly, it’s hosted dozens of tournaments over the years.

While it undoubtedly appeals to hardcore disc golfers seeking a competitive challenge, the course is set apart with its welcoming atmosphere and charming scenery.

Yulga Park Disc Golfing

Yulga Park is a close sibling to Standing Rocks County Park and it would be a missed opportunity to only play one of them. It matches its famous neighbor in terms of impeccable upkeep and natural surroundings. With 18 holes set in the woods and on mostly flat terrain, it adds depth and variety to the disc golfing of Stevens Point. Yulga Park offers more beginner-friendly features favoring newcomers to the sport and hosts tournaments which serve as great forays for those just discovering competitive, tournament-style play.

After playing a round with friends, head just two miles up the road to Jordan Bar & Grill and enjoy classic pub fare like burgers, chicken wings and cheese curds as well as refreshing Wisconsin brews.

Mead Park

Mead Park's disc golfing offers a more low-key course set against the picturesque backdrop of the Wisconsin River. For newcomers to the sport or younger participants, this is a good option for low commitment but high engagement. Mead Park features a satisfying 9-hole course that provides challenges while remaining accessible for casual players.

With a universally accessible playground, a swimming beach and a dog beach, this is a great place to spend the day outside with family.

Eagle Pines

For those who’ve already played the famous courses of Stevens Point, head to Eagle Pines, the newcomer to the fold. Established in 2020, this wooded and flat course offers its own unique set of challenges. The rows of pines, a holdover from the former school forest, create a secluded atmosphere for enjoying nature as you navigate the narrow fairways. It’s a great lead-up to the more challenging courses in the region and an easy stop off Interstate 39.

Big Eau Pleine County Park

Just to the north in Mosinee, Big Eau Pleine County Park serves up its own championship disc golf course, along with generous helpings of hiking, camping, and fishing opportunities along the gorgeous Big Eau Pleine Flowage. This is a perfect spot to set up camp if disc golf is one of many outdoor pursuits on the docket for a weekend getaway. The 18-hole course is respected for a mix of open and wooded fairways and a dynamic layout. Its maintenance and dedicated community match that of Standing Rocks and Yulga Park, making it another favored destination on the Wisconsin Disc Golf Tour.

Though a fair share of competitors and champions flock to the area’s disc golf courses, the scene remains welcoming to all. So, whether you’ve played the sport for 4 months or 40 years, come and explore the beautiful disc golf courses in Stevens Point.
