Sometimes the most unsuspecting places have the most incredible, underrated food, the nicest staff, and the coziest atmosphere. When it comes to hole-in-the-wall chicken wing joints, Wisconsin doesn’t disappoint. Here are just a few of our favorites:
If you live in the Madison area, chances are you’ve heard of Chicken Licks because it’s just that good. However, this is the kind of place that you accidently stumble upon while cruising down a country road, stop in to give it a try, and leave raving about the entire experience. For a small-town vibe and world-class wings, this is your place.
Okay, maybe not the most conventional combination out there. But don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it. Mike’s Donuts and Chicken offers daily specials, including half price buckets of chicken, wing specials, mimosas and donuts.
Not only is Good Land Wing Co. the best wing establishment in Port Washington (okay, it’s the only one), but it’s amazing enough to make our list of the best wing joints in the state. The industrial and rustic setting creates a cozy, family-friendly environment, and its delicious classic and boneless wings don’t hurt either.
TomKen’s is home of the Famous Friendly Fried Chicken and has been named Champion of Milwaukee Wing Fest for the past six years. Stop by on Monday and Thursday evenings for 50-cent wings, doused in a variety of sauces including Honey BBQ, Garlic Parm, Buffalo Sing the Bleus, and Buffalo Garlic.
What goes better with wings than a game on TV? The Sports Nut serves up a laid-back atmosphere and some classic pub grub. Drop in on Wednesdays and Saturdays for 50-cent wings (with 19 flavors available), and if you’ve got a big group (or just have quite the appetite) stop by any day for 100 wings and a quarter barrel of beer for $125.
This joint has the wing thing down. Known for their Willie’s Famous Wings, Tavern 105 offers their delicious take on the classic hot wing. Up for something a little more adventurous? Try some of the extra saucy flavors they are serving up, like Stinging Honey Garlic, Chipotle BBQ, Zesty Orange and more!
With accolades like “Top 21 Best Wing Joints in the Country” and “Best Wings in Wisconsin”, Points East Pub’s hand-sauced wings are a house specialty and certainly have plenty of fans. Don’t be shy – go see what all the buzz is about!
Buckets Pub has been voted Racine’s Best Wings, and that’s all the convincing I need. Choose from grilled, broasted (a special flavor available on Monday evenings) or boneless wings in their signature flavor or teriyaki. Take in the full experience by sitting on one of the outdoor patios or by enjoying a game on one of the 35 TVs.
Wings are the special on Mondays at Freddie’s Pub & Eatery. Enjoy three wings for a dollar in flavors like Hot Garlic, Freddie’s Wild Hot, Garlic Ranch and Sweet Chili.
If the name doesn’t say it all, then just know Wide World of Wings was voted the “King of Wings” in the northland. They’ve got 26 homemade signature sauces, including Szechwan BBQ, Garlic Parmesan, Mango Habanero, Chipotle BBQ, Asian Sweet Heat, Lemon Garlic Buffalo, and if you dare, Pure Evil (which requires signing a waiver).
Not only is The Village Inn the best place to catch a Packers, Badgers, Brewers or Bucks game, but it also boasts some of the best wings. Called “Our Famous Wings” on the menu and with flavors like Hillbilly Bourbon, Cajun dry rub, and Smokehouse BBQ, the wings at The Village Inn are sure to satisfy.
