Vine Dining: A South-Central Wisconsin Wine and Food Journey

This 2-3 day itinerary takes you through some of the region’s best spots for wine lovers and foodies alike, showcasing scenic vineyards, relaxing wine bars and plenty of delicious meals.

Day 1: Enjoy Beautiful Baraboo 

Lunch at Balanced Rock Winery

Start your journey in Baraboo at Balanced Rock Winery, where you and your group can enjoy a modern boutique winery specializing in producing wines from cold climate grapes. Their laid-back atmosphere is perfect for lunch, whether you’re in the mood for pizza, street tacos or charcuterie boards. Check their event schedule ahead of time and pair your visit with some live music. 

Explore Devil’s Lake State Park 

After your winery stop, take some time to explore Devil’s Lake State Park, located just minutes from Baraboo. With stunning bluffs and crystal-clear waters, it’s a great place to hike, kayak or simply lounge on the beach with your besties. 

Dinner at Driftless Glen Distillery & Restaurant 

Finish your day with dinner at Driftless Glen Distillery & Restaurant in Baraboo, where you can enjoy farm-to-table dining and handcrafted spirits such as the Maple Old Fashioned and Naughty Pickle Martini.  

Where to Stay: Ringling House Bed & Breakfast 

Stay the night at the Ringling House Bed & Breakfast in Baraboo, where historic charm meets modern comfort. This cozy B&B is perfect for unwinding after a day of wine and exploration. And in the morning, you and your crew can enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting out on your next adventure. 

Day 2: Delicious Sips in Barneveld and Prairie du Sac

Morning at Botham Vineyards & Winery 

Start your second day with a visit to Botham Vineyards & Winery in Barneveld, a family-owned vineyard known for its award-winning wines and beautiful landscapes. Take a tour of the vineyard and enjoy a tasting while you take in the scenery. 

Afternoon at Wollersheim Winery & Distillery 

Next, head to Prairie du Sac for an afternoon together at the iconic Wollersheim Winery & Distillery. Known for its rich history and wide variety of wines and spirits, Wollersheim is a must-visit for any wine lover. Take a tour of the vineyard and distillery, then relax with a meal in the Bistro paired with a glass of wine or one of their handcrafted cocktails. 

Where to Stay: The Speckled Hen Inn 

End your day with a stay at The Speckled Hen Inn in Madison, a luxurious farm-to-table bed and breakfast that offers a peaceful retreat. You’ll be able to see farm animals grazing out your window and enjoy relaxing in a whirlpool tub or next to the fireplace.  

Day 3: Madison and Fitchburg 

Explore Olbrich Botanical Gardens 

After enjoying breakfast together at The Speckled Hen or Sardine, take a leisurely stroll through Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison. With 16 acres of outdoor gardens and a stunning indoor conservatory, you and your crew will be amazed by the natural beauty before heading to your next destination. 

Dinner at Neil’s Wine House 

Top off your trip with dinner at Neil’s Wine House in Fitchburg. This relaxed wine bar offers a selection of local and international wines, along with a menu of small plates, steak, pasta and more.
