About Port Washington Breakwater Lighthouse and Lightstation Museum
The Port Washington Breakwater Lighthouse is one of Wisconsin's most distinctive landmarks, standing proudly at the end of the harbor's north breakwater on the shores of Lake Michigan. Built in 1935, this striking Art Deco lighthouse guides vessels into Port Washington and offers a picturesque destination for a lakeside walk. Stroll the breakwater for panoramic water views, watch boats pass through the harbor and capture unforgettable photos of this historic beacon, which was recently restored and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The experience continues on shore at the historic 1860 light station, which has been fully restored and is open seasonally for tours. Step inside the first floor to see rooms furnished in the style of the Lewis family, who served as lightkeepers from 1874 to 1934, then explore exhibits at the local historical society museum housed within the station.
