About Cheyenne Valley Heritage Road Tour
The Cheyenne Valley area near Hillsboro was Wisconsin's largest rural African American settlement in the 19th century.
Many African American settlers became landowners and, along with neighboring European immigrants, established one of the State’s earliest integrated schools, churches and sports teams. The driving tour starts at the State Historic Marker located on the southwest side of Hillsboro at the intersection of Hwy 80 and Elm Ave. A map of the route can be found on Cheyenne Valley Heritage Tour website.
