About Center Avenue Historic District
This historic district covers approximately two and a half city blocks and boasts an impressive array of homes built from 1885 to 1930. Once home to Merrill’s wealthiest residents, lumber barons and notable business leaders, the area displays a variety of architectural styles, including Queen Anne, Italianate, Prairie School, and Colonial Revival. Nineteen of the original houses are still well-preserved, providing insight into the city's prosperous history and architectural heritage.
The Center Avenue Historic District consists of the 300-600 block of North Center Avenue; and the 1200-1300 blocks of East Sixth Street.
