About Legend Of Emerson Park
"An old Chippewa Indian legend says that Bearskull Lake is sacred. Any white man who had anything to do with the lake or its vicinity will have everlasting ill fortune." The Emerson brothers, drawn to Bearskull Lake to salvage virgin timber in 1904, built the town of Emerson. The town was later destroyed by fire, then rebuilt. In 1908, four members of the Emerson family were killed by lightening, while fishing on Bearskull Lake. Coincidence or curse?
