Little Finland

Built in 1970, this log building is a cultural center preserving the Finnish heritage of the hardy settlers who came to work in the mines of the Penokee Range. The building features unique Finnish "fish-tail" log construction. The timbers were once part of the huge Ashland ore docks. From those docks the very iron ore Finnish immigrants toiled to mine was loaded into ore boats bound for eastern steel mills. Harma House Museum, a traditional Finnish homestead, also located on site can be viewed from the outside anytime.
