About Richard I Bong Veterans Historical Center
The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center is dedicated to preserving & telling the story of America’s heroes. The Center is a unique place in which you will hear the amazing story of how a quiet farm boy from Poplar Wisconsin became America’s Ace of Aces. You will be immersed in other stories of the brave men and women that have served our country. Each exhibit at the center provides a personal perspective on service and sacrifice. You will be taken through time and witness ordinary people becoming extraordinary heroes. When you visit you will see “Marge”, a Fully Restored P-38 Lightning. One of the few remaining P-38’s is the highlight of the center. Our P-38 is fully restored to resemble the one Major Bong flew during his service.
