The trip makes it a vacation. Family makes it a tradition.
The Thompson family has been vacationing in Wisconsin at Black's Cliff Resort since 1958. They spend two weeks on the lake, swimming, boating and relaxing. But most importantly, they spend their time together. The family has spread out, but the distance does not stop them from meeting in northern Wisconsin each year.
Every night the group gathers for a campfire. We eat s’mores and swat mosquitoes
Family tradition. It’s been a part of us forever. Being here at Black’s Cliff just reminds me of when I was a kid. We have a cookout and a campfire daily and every morning is the swim across the lake. If you ask any of the kids where their favorite place to vacation is…it’s Wisconsin. We wouldn’t miss this for anything.
Trying to sink the raft. It's tradition.
We’ve been coming up here with our family and all of these friends our entire lives. It’s like one huge family reunion. We’ve been asked by our parents about vacationing elsewhere. They tell us we could go to Wisconsin for one week and then go someplace else for another week…Disney World, Hawaii maybe. No, we’re going two weeks to Wisconsin.
We can't wait to be on the boat.
The family leaves the Chicago area early for the five hour trip north each year. Everyone is so excited to get there, which is why they leave early so the kids all end up sleeping on the way.
We can't wait to be on the tube getting pulled behind the boat, or for the trip to Holiday Acres to go mini gofling. And the campfire and s'mores are the best!
Our cabins all have a view of the lake and the shoreline shaded by towering pines. The kids all fight over who gets to sleep on the swinging beds on the screened-in porches.
My family is the third generation to help run Black’s Cliff Resort. Families, friends and even their dogs are welcome all four season for a Northwoods getaway. Find more details about Black’s Cliff Resort.
