The Ridges Sanctuary is recognized as one of the most diverse natural areas in Wisconsin. Five miles of hiking trails wind through over 1400 acres of boreal forest and provide access to the unique ridge and swale complex formed by the steady rise and fall of the waters of Lake Michigan. Some 25 native orchids and a dozen other rare plants grow here, and the area provides habitat for the federally-endangered Hines Emerald dragonfly. Two range lights on the property. Trails are open year around for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Education programs for all ages – check website for calendar of upcoming events. A $5 trail fee for adults, no charge for children under 18.
