It’s cold outside in Wisconsin, but Olbrich Botanical Gardens turns up the heat with performances by Atimevu Drum and Dance. This Madison-based group brings the culture and traditions of Ghana to your doorstep as part of Olbrich’s Children of the Rainforest series. Atimevu Drum and Dance performs traditional Ghanaian folk music and authentic dances from all tribes in Ghana. Ten performers will fill the room with energetic dancing, drumming, and singing. The group uses 14 different instruments including bamboo flutes, rattling gourds, and many different drums. They even take their name from the word "atimevu," which means drum made from a tree. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 3 to 12. Children ages 2 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door before each performance. The Children of the Rainforest series celebrates the cultures of rainforest regions around the world and fosters an attitude of stewardship toward the natural environment. The series is generously sponsored by William Wartmann.
