The 28th Annual Sturgeon Stampede will kick off Friday February 10th at noon with snowkiting and ice sailing until dark 1/2 mile off the shores of Roosevelt Park, on the Southeast corner of Lake Winnebago. Friday afternoon the Winnebago Association of Kiteboarders (WAK) will be offering food and refreshments, heated shelters, and an event kickoff bonfire and heart thumping music. On Saturday the Stampede will host the Midwest’s best Kiteboarders in a Long Distance Snowkiting Race with a $1000 dollar cash prize going to the first place finishing competitor GUARANTEED! An additional five $100 dollar drawings will be randomly picked for ALL others competitors who COMPLETE the Race. Complimentary 42" kites will be given away to the first arriving spectators to join in on the kite flying fun. Distance Race will start approx. ½ mile off the shore of Roosevelt Park. Shelters, food and refreshments and music will again be available. Awards and Cash Prizes will be presented on Saturday at the ceremonial bonfire, along with the crowning of the "Sturgeon Queen." Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30pm. Sunday will bring more kite and sailing activities with many of the area riders enjoying and sharing the ‘free ride’ experience of the winter winds as they play, soar and sail on the frozen lake. Sunday is also the official alternate competition day if there is no wind on Saturday. Shelters, food and refreshments will be available. So don’t miss out on one of Wisconsin’s Greatest Winter Events. Join us this upcoming February 10th – 12th. C'mon out and experience winter the WAK way! Please dress for the conditions and enjoy winter at its finest.
