In 1947, Frank Lloyd Wright, then 80 accepted the architectural commission to build the First Unitarian Society of Madison. Society members pitched in to cut costs, hauling limestone from a nearby quarry. Total cost rose to more than $213,000 in addition to $32,000 in donated labor. Two major additions have been designed by Taliesin Associated Architects, the first in 1964 and the second in 1990.
