The Navarino Wildlife Area is a 15,000 acre WDNR property located in Southeast Shawano County and Northeast Waupaca County. Habitats on the wildlife area include: upland forests, lowland forests, sedge marshes, bogs, flowages, and restored prairie habitats. Navarino was once part of a glacial lake bed formed 12,000 years ago. Wildlife frequently seen on Navarino include: Sandhill cranes, Wild turkey, Black terns, Wood ducks, various waterfowl, migratory songbirds, and most of the fur bearing mammals found in Wisconsin. Navarino Nature Center is a non-profit nature center that cooperates with the WDNR to provide educational offerings and visitor assistance.
