Details

Powell Marsh provides a parking area and vista lookout as well as dikes to walk along. A Great Wisconsin Birding & Nature Trail (Northwoods/Lake Superior region) site. View a variety of bird species such as waterfowl, Bitterns, shorebirds, great blue heron, songbirds, marsh hawks, eagles, sandhill cranes, Northern harrier, LeConte's sparrow, short-eared owl, Nelson's sharp tailed sparrow, sharp tailed grouse, Henslow's sparrow, Black Terns and more. Bring binoculars. No-entry refuge September 1 through December 31 during migration period. Also popular for hunting. Powell Marsh is 12,300 acres; wildlife refuge is 1,800 acres. Vista pool drawn occasionally to repair dikes, control vegetation and attract birds.
