The Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company rested the brewery's draft horses on what is now the Schlitz Audubon Center property in Milwaukee.

403-acre refuge with woodland, wetland and prairie habitats. Resident and migrant bird species include Cooper's and Sharp-shinned hawks, Upland sandpipers, bobolinks, Henslow's sparrows and Yellow-breasted chats. Spring warblers are excellent. Hiking trails.
