5 Fun Things to Do with Kids Around Milwaukee

Share

In Wisconsin there’s infinite opportunities to laugh and have fun as a whole family. Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, teens and everything in between, these recommendations will have you creating new memories together in no time! Here are some recommendations to create new memories as a family.

BETTY BRINN CHILDREN’S MUSEUM | MILWAUKEE

This museum is not only a place for kids to learn and explore independently but also offers opportunities for families to join in the fun together. It’s a special place, designed specifically for children 10 and younger, where you can create memorable experiences while nurturing your children’s curiosity while growing their skills.

One of the highlights is the "Hot Lava" exhibit, where children can unleash their inner architects by navigating adventures while avoiding imaginary lava. This exhibit encourages creativity, problem-solving and imaginative play in a safe and stimulating environment.

Another exciting exhibit is "Velocity," which explores the science behind movement. Children can learn about physics concepts like speed, trajectory and momentum through interactive displays and activities that make learning about science engaging and fun.

If you're in Milwaukee and looking for a place where your little ones can learn, play and explore, the Betty Brinn Children's Museum is definitely worth a visit.

DISCOVERY WORLD | MILWAUKEE

Ignite a love of endless exploration at this one-of-a-kind interactive facility on the shores of Lake Michigan. Kids of all ages (and adults!) will be fascinated by all the different hands-on exhibits offered here. At Discovery World, they believe in the power of play to inspire a love for learning.

Many experiences are tailored for tiny hands and big imaginations, inviting early learners to dive into the mysteries of the deep sea or build their own wonderland. Your little ones will love the touch tank in the aquarium where they can meet turtles, pet sting rays and even enjoy the occasional visit from a mermaid. Visit the replica ship and be the captain on a grand adventure through the seven seas.

Show your children how fun science can be by letting them pilot a virtual plane, create something new in the design lab or even create a thunderstorm over the Great Lakes! This immersive science museum is open year-round making it easy to plan an adventure-filled trip whenever you want.

MILWAUKEE PUBLIC MUSEUM | MILWAUKEE

Are you ready for an experience that defies the barriers of time and space? The Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) invites you on an unforgettable journey through history, nature and beyond. Every exhibit opens a door to a new world—full of fascinating stories, immersive displays and jaw-dropping discoveries. MPM isn’t just a museum, it’s a launchpad for adventure, curiosity and learning for all ages.

Wander through the butterfly garden as vibrant wings flutter around you, creating a living kaleidoscope of color. Step back in time to walk among towering dinosaurs and imagine the thunder of their roars. Journey into the cosmos at the planetarium—no space suit required—and explore the wonders of the universe. Don’t miss Bugs Alive!, where live insects from across the globe crawl, climb, and maybe even land in your hand.

No matter how many times you visit, there is always something new to discover and explore.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY ZOO | MILWAUKEE

The Milwaukee County Zoo is a true gem—offering a wild adventure and a world of natural wonders right in the heart of the city. More than just a place to see animals, it’s an immersive experience for the whole family. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed into a vibrant environment filled with excitement, discovery and awe-inspiring encounters with wildlife.

Home to over 2,200 animals representing 340 species, every visit brings new opportunities to connect with nature. Get an up-close look at your favorite creatures while learning about their habitats, behaviors and the zoo’s vital conservation efforts. Beyond the exhibits, enjoy family-friendly attractions like the beloved miniature train, a charming carousel featuring animal figures, and interactive play areas for kids. It’s easy to see why the Milwaukee County Zoo remains one of the Midwest’s most cherished destinations.

BOOKWORM GARDENS | SHEBOYGAN

Make bedtime stories come to life at this unique attraction, located about an hour north of Milwaukee. Inspired by children’s literature, the natural world and the imagination, this is a special place filled with child-like wonder and amusement.

Watch as your children’s eyes light up with fascination as they engage with story-themed exhibits throughout the beautiful botanical gardens. Hop aboard the magic school bus, meet the three bears or dig for dinosaur bones. You’ll find a new discovery around every nook and cranny. Find a cozy spot and curl up with a book you found while exploring and enjoy the sweet company of your little ones.

General admission to the gardens is available May 1-October 31 but keep an eye on the calendar for special events like the Fairyfolk Festival – a weeklong celebration filled with whimsical fun!
