Surround Yourself with Nature at These Wisconsin State Park Campsites

Share

The best way to experience Wisconsin’s gorgeous state parks is by setting up camp with your favorite people. The variety of parks makes it easy to choose your own adventure, from remote river islands to beautiful bluff overlooks to waterfalls that sing you to sleep. Read on to discover the perfect state park for your next camping adventure.

Brunet Island State Park - Cornell

Escape to the northwoods with a stay at beautiful Brunet Island State Park. The Chippewa and Fisher rivers frame this wooded island, surrounding you with gently flowing waterways.

Here, the rolling landscape mixes with the quiet lagoons to create a peaceful energy perfect for valuable time with friends and family. Bike along the Old Abe State Trail, explore the rivers by kayak or canoe and follow scenic hiking trails throughout the park.

Drive right up to your campsite along the edge of the Chippewa River and its bays for easy access. Then, set up camp with a view of the water and begin your relaxing getaway.

Rock Island State Park - Rock Island

For a uniquely picturesque hideaway, take a trip to  Rock Island State Park. Hop on the Rock Island Ferry from Washington Island off the tip of Door County to access this remote retreat, where no cars are allowed. Explore sandy beaches and camp under the stars at walk-in sites along Lake Michigan. You and your crew will hardly believe you’re in the Midwest on this memorable island adventure.

Wyalusing State Park - Bagley

Camping with a view takes on a new meaning at Wisconsin Ridge Campground in Wyalusing State Park. As you enter the grounds, your jaw will drop when you approach your bluffside campsite that overlooks the mighty Mississippi River from 500 feet up. From the top of the ridge, you’ll also be just steps away from a hiking trail that features two small waterfalls. With onsite showers and several sites that feature electrical hookups, you and your group will be surrounded by nature while also enjoying homey comfort.

Turtle-Flambeau Flowage Scenic Waters Area - Mercer

Looking for a camping experience with adventure built in?? The flowage of the Turtle-Flambeau Scenic Waters Area offers 66 remote sites that are only accessible by boat. Most of these sites currently require no reservation, so paddlers can glide through the waters for different campsites on a first-come, first-served basis (this will change beginning in 2026).

Everyone will remember the trip where they paddled from campsite to campsite to stay somewhere different each night of their trek. Some of these sites are also in the voluntary quiet area that takes up 20% of the flowage. These sites offer a serene getaway for paddlers, campers and anglers alike.

Newport State Park - Ellison Bay

Newport State Park in Door County is a backpacker’s paradise. The park covers eleven miles of sparkling Lake Michigan shoreline and thirty miles of hiking trails. Reserve your perfect hike-in camping spot for views of the water and ocean-like beaches. And since Newport is an International Dark Sky Park, you’ll have an incredible starry view you won’t find anywhere else.

Amnicon Falls State Park - South Range

Falling asleep to the sound of rushing waterfalls might sound like a dream, but it’s very much a reality at Amnicon Falls State Park in northern Wisconsin. The campground is mostly rustic and the 36 shaded campsites have no electric hookups or showers, but that’s exactly what allows for the sounds of the waterfalls and rapids of the Amnicon River to travel their way to your campsite. Hike the scenic trails for views of the rushing water, and be sure to stop at the covered bridge for a perfect photo op.
