Discover the story of the Grand Theater from its predecessor, the Grand Opera House (1899-1927) to the construction of the Grand in 1927, andthrough the years of transition from a vaudeville silent movie house (1928-1930) to a motion picture Theater (1931-1985) and then to a performing artsTheater after the 1986 renovation. The restored theater is now a performing arts center for the Wausau area.

Directions from Nearest Town/Intersection

To the Grand Theater coming from the South Highway 51 / I-39. Take exit 192, or exit for Hwy 52 East. Follow 52 East into town to the WausauCenter Mall. At light on First and Washington Streets, youll see the JC Penney store on your right. Keeping mall on your right proceed ahead forone block, turn left onto Second Street. Go one block and turn onto Jefferson Street. At the corner of Third and Jefferson you can look across the green space and see thetheater in the middle of Fourth Street. Or from the North: Take Exit 193 (Bridge Street), follow Bridge Street east crossing the Wisconsin River toFifth Street. Turn right onto Fifth Street (one way) to Scott Street. The theater is between Scott and Jefferson Streets, facing Fourth Street. Parking is available in the lots located in the 100 block and 500 blockof Jefferson Street; the 100 block of McClellan Street and in the Wausau Center parking ramps. Parking is also available on various streets surrounding the theater.
