Lenore Tawney (1907–2007) stands as a major figure in the fiber movement, and the impact of her groundbreaking practice continues to reverberate. As early as the 1950s, Tawney’s work was a major force in redefining postwar weaving. Her interdisciplinary practice extends beyond fiber art to include sculpture, drawing, and collage. In addition, she constructed a remarkable home collection and ethereal studio space. Tawney’s deep spiritual beliefs ran through all aspects of her life and her exceptional oeuvre can be seen as one cohesive body of work. At once retrospective and forward-facing, this multifaceted exploration of Lenore Tawney emphasizes the poetic and spiritual threads running through her various practices.
