2017 marks the Art Center’s 50th anniversary, we embark on a yearlong exploration of art environments titled THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED. This series of 15 exhibitions not only offers a rare opportunity to experience the work of more than a dozen art-environment builders from the Arts Center’s world-renowned collection, it incorporates new writing and works of art produced by scholars, curators, musicians, and exceptional theorists from wide-ranging disciplines in response to the environments. Through connecting our collection with internationally respected thinkers, this series aims to expand the understanding of this compelling body of work. To complement this series of 15 exhibitions, the Arts Center will host a three-day conference in September 2017 to capture some of the conversations and exceptional ideas generated throughout the year. THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED will feature Levi Fisher Ames, Rita Barros, Harry Bertoia, Emery Blagdon, Kimberly Blaiser, Loy Bowlin, David Butler, Nek Chand, Nick Engelbert, Michelle Grabner, Heather Hart, Terrence Holt, Jesse Howard, Ernest Hüpeden, Dr. Iain Jackson, Jennifer Joy Jameson, Faythe Levine, and Brett Littman. Also included will be works by Norma Jeanne Maloney, Eddie Owens Martin (St. EOM), Catherine Morris, Gê Orthof, Mary Nohl, David Rhodes, Stacey Rozich, Fred Scruton, Dr. Charles Smith, SPACES archives, Lisa Stone, Shannon Stratton, Leslie Umberger, Eugene Von Bruenchenhein, Stella Waitzkin, Jonathan, Frederick Walz, and Albert Zahn.
