About the WWS: Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of Wisconsin artists led by Marion Bode and included Thomas Dietrich, Earl Gessert, Emily Groom, Gerald Landt, Dorothy Meredith, Robert Von Neumann, and Peter Rotier. They were later joined by many other well-known Wisconsin Artists. Most of the early and founding members were educators at Downer College (UWM). WWS’ membership base still includes many educators but also includes members from other professions outside the field of art who show an interest in and a love and proficiency in watercolor. The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was the first Wisconsin art organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose, then as now, has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor. Today, membership includes more than 80 artists who exhibit twice each year in arts centers throughout southeast Wisconsin.
