The Dodge County Center for the Arts (DCCA) is excited to announce the opening of their new exhibit showcasing the exceptional and breathtaking work of artist and DCCA board member, Erika Scheer.
The exhibit, which will run from February 8th through March 17th, highlights Scheer’s mastery in the timeless art of wood carving, a skill passed down through generations of her family. Scheer is a multi-generational wood carver, trained by her father, a master woodcarver from Budapest, Hungary. Her artistic journey began at a young age, spending time drawing and experimenting with clay in her father’s workshop. As her talents blossomed, Erika was introduced to the intricate world of wood carving, where she immersed herself in the craft and its rich history. Her father, a lifelong mentor, introduced Erika to various historical styles, including Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and the American Arts and Crafts movement, which became central to her evolving artistic expression.
Erika’s artistic path has taken her from Illinois to Florida and Ohio, before finding a new home in Waupun Wisconsin, where she continues to honor her family’s legacy while sharing her craft with a new community.
The opening reception for this special exhibit will take place on Saturday, February 8th, from 1-3 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artist, enjoy refreshments, and experience Scheer’s magnificent wood carvings firsthand. Admission is free, and the exhibit will remain on display through March 17th.
