Evansville Historic Districts
Evansville is a lovely historic community in southern Wisconsin. Settled in 1839, this city of 5,000 has three historic districts with almost 300 structures--and one park--listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At least a dozen architectural styles are easily seen among residences and commercial buildings in the downtown area. A state historic sign where the little, pretty Main Street bridge crosses Allen Creek recognizes the contributions of CCC workers in the 1930s. For walkers interested in a self-guided tour, a booklet with a map and brief descriptions is available. Free copies of the booklet can be picked up at retail shops, Eager Free Public Library, Creekside Place and City Hall.
