River Sands

The River Sands region in central Wisconsin is named for the scenic, sandy rivers that wind their way through the area. And there’s much more here than just the water. It’s how we enjoy the River Sands, with the vibrant communities and friendly people who call it home, that make this region worth a trip for you, your family and your friends.

The Wisconsin River, From Wisconsin Dells to Wausau

In the south of the River Sands region is Wisconsin Dells, the waterpark capital of the world. No matter the season, make unforgettable family memories splashing through water slides or relaxing along lazy rivers at any one of several indoor and outdoor waterpark resorts. Or, experience the natural beauty of the Dells while feeling the adrenaline rush on a high speed boat from Jet Boat Adventures.

Traveling north, Stevens Point is home to a thriving community filled with unexpected gems worth sharing. Take in a tour, then reminisce with friends over a craft beer at one of the nation’s oldest breweries, Stevens Point Brewery. Explore the 27-mile Green Circle Trail, portions of which follow the sandy banks of the Wisconsin River, on a bike, on cross-country skis or in your pair of trusted hiking shoes.

At the northern point of River Sands is Wausau, another must-stop community along the Wisconsin River. In the winter, bring the friends for a snowboarding trip at Granite Peak, with some of the best slopes in the Midwest. In the fall, you can ride the chair lifts for prime views of the fall color. Or hike up to the top of nearby Rib Mountain for sweeping views of the Wisconsin River.

Beyond the River

While the Wisconsin River runs down the heart of the River Sands region, there are many more memories to be made both east and west. Like marveling at the out-of-this-world sculptures in Jurustic Park in Marshfield. Or experiencing the diverse art in Shawano Country
