Pepin County is the smallest county in Wisconsin and is comprised of four communities: Durand, Arkansaw, Pepin, and Stockholm. Lake Pepin, the largest lake on the Mississippi River, borders the southern end of the county, while the Chippewa River runs along the southeast border between Pepin and Buffalo County. Pepin County is also home to the birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder, a popular childrens author who wrote "Little House on the Prairie" and "Little House in the Big Woods".
