Iola Historical Village & Historical Society

The Iola Historical Society has installed six Historic Iola markers throughout the village and at the Iola Winter Sports Club (Historic Iola No. 1 -- Iola Winter Sports Club Celebrates 100th Anniversary). The pictured marker is of Iola's Dr. Loope, who helped start the University of Wisconsin's Badger football team and was a player on the first team. The Iola Historical Society maintains an Iola Historical Village complex and museum. The village complex features Iola's historic 1894 depot, a town hall, log cabin, one-room schoolhouse and firehouse, the latter including a display of three historic Iola firefighting apparatus that are 70 to 100 years old. The museum features both permanent and changing exhibits capturing the community's Swiss beginnings in the 1850s and rich Norwegian heritage of the late 19th and early 20th centuries that developed subsequently.
