Fall foliage puts a finishing touch on the already breathtaking vistas along the Lake Superior shoreline at Wisconsin's northernmost tip. State Highway 13 runs along Lake Superior from Ashland to Superior, providing drivers with gorgeous views of the largest of the Great Lakes, the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and several historic lighthouses.

The wild Brule River and the Red Cliff Indian Reservation, home of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, are other highlights on this route. Short side trips to Amnicon Falls State Park and Pattison State Park are worth the few extra miles to reap views of pristine waterfalls, including the 165-foot-high Big Manitou Falls, the state's largest.
