Snow tubing is the perfect winter activity for the whole family. No special skills, equipment or even feet of snow are required—most tubing destinations can make their own snow and will provide tubes with your ticket. Extend your family’s snow tubing adventure by planning an overnight stay at these convenient and family-friendly lodges, motels and resorts.
Near Sunburst Winter Sports Park
USA Today ranks Sunburst among its top tubing hills in America. Sunburst boasts more than 40 lanes, two “magic carpet” rides to the top and a Tubing Café to warm up after flying down the hill at 40mph.
For families on a budget, consider crashing down the road at the no-frills Bonne Belle Motel. As a locally-owned motel, it’s got a pleasantly retro vibe and offers complimentary breakfast. If you want to enjoy an evening out with your older kids, stay at the historic Washington House Inn in Cedarburg. Ask for the loft room to fit the family. Then explore the idyllic town and catch a $3.50 movie across the street.
Near Wilmot Mountain
In 2016, Wilmot Mountain became part of the acclaimed Vail Resorts family. Families from Chicago can travel under two hours to see how the $13 million renovations have rejuvenated the mountain – including the tubing area! With more than 20 tubing chutes, 1,000-foot rides, and a dedicated tubing chalet, your family will stay busy.
But if your family never tires, drive the short distance to Timber Ridge Lodge and Waterpark at Grand Geneva. Go from snow to water slides, and send your kiddos to the activity center and arcade. You’ll all sleep well after a lively day in Wisconsin.
Near Badlands Sno-Park
Ideal for families living near the Twin Cities, Badlands Sno-Park focuses solely on classic tubing. Instead of lanes or chutes, the tubing routes are wider and have more varied terrain.
If you’ve got a larger family that loves the outdoors, consider renting the Kinni Creek Lodge & Outfitters vacation home. This rustic lodge is only minutes from Badlands Sno-Park, as well as exciting snowmobiling and cross country skiing trails. Your family will feel cozy and connected with a fireplace and outdoor hot tub.
Looking for something simpler? Royal Inn is five minutes away and gives you family-friendly comfort for a bargain.
Near Mont du Lac Recreation Area
About two and a half hours from the Twin Cities, Mont du Lac is an up-north winter activity haven. Your tubing ticket will give you access to the whole mountain for varied skiing and snowboarding terrain. Tubing chutes range from beginner to black diamond, though all are relatively fast. Your kiddos must be over 42″ tall to ride.
The best part? Mont du Lac features simple ski-in ski-out cabins. With two rooms and bunk beds, your family can settle in for a quiet night on the hill – or head down to the Base Lodge Pub for dinner and live music. Bring your own linens, towels and toiletries for this rustic lodging experience! You’ll get a 25% discount off your Family Pass when you stay.
Grab the family and make a weekend out of a getaway to one of Wisconsin's many tubing destinations. This entry was posted in Hotels & Motels
