Mary Nohl (1914–2001) was an environment builder whose creations permeated her home and her lakefront property. This exhibition embraces Nohl’s broad artistic practice, which was deeply influenced by Lake Michigan and her woodland surroundings, On display are a selection of Nohl’s paintings, sculptures, and illustrations from the Arts Center collection. Collaborating in the creation of the exhibition was Brooklyn Museum Curator Catherine Morris. Morris has chosen works that highlight Nohl as a prolific artist in many media, showcasing her as a creative individual with an identity beyond that of an outlier in her community.
