An Exhibition by SuperMonster? City!

As the last battles of World War II waned, a new conflict was brewing between the world’s two new superpowers, the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Fought through the veil of rhetoric, secrets, and the race to outer space, the Cold War infiltrated every aspect of life, permeating both American and USSR popular culture. Toys, games, comics, and popular media quickly reflected the espionage, space exploration, and growing political tension of the real world.

Built from the personal collection of SuperMonster? City! co-founder David Barnhill, Spies and Space: Toys of the Cold War features vintage spy and space themed objects curated by SuperMonster? City! co-founder Stephen Rueff. Experience how real life events like the launch of Sputnik 1, the Apollo moon landing, the Berlin ‘bridge of spies’ prisoner exchange launched a new genre of popular culture, including alien figurines, spy gadgets and new TV and film franchises like James Bond 007, Star Trek, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Join the Sheboygan County Museum from February 3 to April 27, 2024, and delve into a world of Cold War era mystery, adventure, exploration and play with the traveling exhibit Spies and Space: Toys of the Cold War, an exhibit of SuperMonster? City!
