Prairie Fling is Hunt Hill’s largest event, bringing over 500 people to the nature sanctuary. The one day extravaganza features musical entertainment, nature programs, horse-drawn wagon and tractor rides, artist vendors, community group displays, and tasty foods and treats available for purchase. There is also a large kid’s activity area with free face painting, straw bale forts, a petting zoo, yard games, and wooden car races.

This year’s festival will feature a live raptor program from the Audubon Center of the Northwoods at 12:00 pm. A National Park Service Ranger will also present a program titled “The Secret Life of Clams” at 11:00 am. These programs are great for all ages. A great line up of musical entertainment will include guitarist and folk singer Eric Schubring from 10:30 to 11:30 am, old time fiddle dance music from The Second Wind String Band from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, and guitarist Sonofmel from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.. Les Fils du Voyageur (The Sons of the Voyageur) will serenade festival goers with songs of the fur trade era as they wander around Hunt Hill throughout the day.

In the Community Group area, festival goers can meet some of our neighbors in Northwest Wisconsin such as local businesses, clubs, and organizations. Groups attending include the National Park Service, Rice Lake Library, local Boy Scout troops and Cub Scouts, Master Gardeners, Friends of the Namekagon Barrens, and much more.

Artisans will also be lined along the Hunt Hill driveway selling their wares. Peruse and purchase handmade jewelry, paintings, local syrup and honey, and much more.

Hunt Hill will offer a special presentation at 1:00 pm titled "Taking Flight". This 20 minute program is in celebration of the Hunt Hill camp being turned over to the Friends of Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary. We will also be celebrating the recent announcement of our million dollar match campaign and update guests on our progress. The celebration will end with a symbolic bird release.

The entrance fee for Prairie Fling is $7 per adult, $5 per child ages 5-12, and free for children ages 4 and under. Hunt Hill Members receive free admission for the day.
