Avalon Cinema
On December 11, 1929 the Tracy family opened a state of the art movie theatre. Known as the Avalon Theater. Like the other movie theaters of the day it was a large single screen movie palace. The Avalon closed its doors in 1990. A group of concerned Platteville residents decided to try and revive the old theatre. They eventually formed Building Platteville Inc. and proceeded to raise money needed to renovate and remodel this historic building that had been so important to the life of a small rural community. They were successful and in 1994 the Avalon reopened as a modern tri-plex. The people of Platteville have a theatre that the entire community can be proud of and call their own. Come see one of Hollywood's latest hits at the AVALON CINEMA. Oh, and don't forget the hot fresh popcorn and a cold soda!
