The Arts Center draws from its renowned collection of artist-built environments to present more than 150 works by Dr. Charles Smith, most of which have not been on view since the dismantling of his Aurora, Illinois, environment in 1999. 

Designed to fulfill the African-American Heritage Museum + Veterans Archive’s primary intended purpose of education, this exhibition organizes each piece by theme and contextualized within important periods in African American history.
