Iroquois Raised Beadwork is a rare style of Native American Beadwork from the Eastern Great Lakes Region. First executed with stone and shell, later with moose hair and hide, and now with velvet and glass beads, this Beadwork protects and preserves Iroquois culture and world view.
Create a 4" beaded heart with a Valentine theme, using traditional Iroquois patterns provided by instructor Karen Ann Hoffman of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. The beadwork project will be used as a vehicle to explore Iroquois history, culture and society and its relationship to the dominant culture. At the end of the day, the student will leave with a deeper understanding of Native Woodland world view as well as a handcrafted piece of Iroquois material culture.
Tuition is $75, plus $20 paid directly to instructor for materials kit
